Cruise with the coast guard

The EcoSens project led a joint research cruise with “KV Tor” April 20-23.

Fifteen researchers and students participated on the four-day cruise in Bjørnafjorden and Hardangerfjorden. The EcoSens team was joined by Nansensenteret/SFI Smart Ocean, who investigated sound propagation in the fjords, as well as NIVA/Økokyst who took water samples for water quality analysis.

In addition, students from both UiB and HVL joined the cruise, amongst other things to test a hydrophone recording system.

The weather was perfect just like on last year’s coast guard cruise. The crew joked that they would capture one of the scientists and keep onboard as a lucky weather charm! Apparently the weather had been terrible for all their cruises in between the ones we were on.

Although there was no algae bloom this year, the optical measurements were taken on the same locations as in the bloom last year, providing valuable reference data.

All photos by Håkon Sandven (except for the first one, where he is in the frame. But it was his camera on that one too!).
